Manufacturers publish temperature windows for a reason. Below a certain substrate temperature, an adhesive doesn’t cure the way it’s designed to, a self-adhered membrane doesn’t tack properly, and a torch-applied system behaves differently on a cold deck than the installer expects. None of that shows up as a visible problem on installation day. Why adhesives and primers publish a temperature window at all
Adhesive chemistry depends on temperature to cure correctly. This is where a detailed, product-by-product approach matters more than a single rule of thumb for the whole project. A contractor working through a late-season install should be checking data sheets for every temperature-sensitive product on the job, not assuming that one clearance covers the field membrane, the flashing details, and the seam work equally. A roof pushed to spring loses nothing except a few months of waiting. A roof installed outside its rated temperature window can lose years of service life and a warranty claim in the same failure.
